So what I would have done, was lowered the camera angle just a bit more so that the figures on the bottom left look closer to the viewer and larger.
You did very well with minimizing the amount of detail in the background, but you should have added a lot more detail in the foreground (the figures on the bottom right) to make that distance more obvious.
I really think you did an awesome job on the lighting for this scene. It just flows together and my eyes follow the painting nicely. The colours are mostly on the same scale, meaning thei're mostly mid tones, try making the foreground contrast more with the middleground and then you can really see the difference between the two planes. However, I can already see you're thinking of this since the foreground is much darker than the middle ground, but I'd darken it up a little more.
All in all you did a good job so keep it up!

I totally get what you're saying, for a random sketch I did months ago I turned it into something quite decent, I'm keen to do more and better stuff. Still feels a bit like a miniature town to me, might be the style of drawing combined with the angle

thanks everyone for the DD! [link]
at this stage when you're starting out and learning new methods, the best thing to do in my opinion is experiment and practice a lot. looking at reference, learning how other artists work, looking at styles untill you find a style of your own. personally i've found two forums that have helped me SO much in the past few years:
[link] and [link]
I definitelly recommend these for you as they are filles with a community of artists that will comment on your work and make you better. I owe a lot of what I do today (although still needs SO much more improvement) to the people that inhabit these forums.
art is something that comes only strictly with practice, its not something you can be lazy with and expect to turn into Da Vinci without effort and hard work. Thats something i always remind myself of when I start to slack or lose motivation and it really does help
I see potential in your work man! keep it up
